Are you tired of hunting down the right button in Excel, SPSS, or Matlab? In this workshop designed for graduate students with zero programming experience, we will explore how to perform statistical analyses on spreadsheet data using free, popular, powerful, and professional tools.

Python is one of the most popular programming languages used by statisticians today. Python and its statistics libraries are also free and open source. This means that research projects that use Python encourage reproducibility, transparency, and peer review far more than proprietary statistics tools. If you care about reproducibility, transparency, and peer review in research, then this workshop is for you!

Tasks

In this workshop, learners will:

• Learn the very basics of computer programming.
• Explore the simple computer code written for a real research project.
• Learn to perform a Pearson R, Mann Whitney U test, t-test, and ANOVA on spreadsheet data.
• Run computer code on their personal devices to run statistical analyses.

Before the Workshop

Participants must bring their own laptop with them to the workshop. Prior to the workshop, students must install Python 3.5 (or higher) on their laptop. Click here for more details on installing Python.
